There’s Gold In Them Thar’ Hills

Is the web a new Klondike Gold Rush, everyone sees it as the new source to exploit.  Are you going to try and grab your stake? But what if you’ve found where the gold is, how will you mine it? By hand or with a shovel?

goldigger1Allow me, if you will, to turn this gold rush/gold mining comparison into an analogy from Hell!

Now there’s an awful lot to be said for the theory that the folk that made the most money out of the Gold Rush were those selling the shovels, the booze and the bordellos but let’s move on a step farther and give this analogy some momentum. Let me take you on a journey. Let’s go and stake our claim…

Imagine the Internet as a Saharan style desert – dunes of sand as far as the eye can see – and everyone of those grains of sand is a web site. A depressing image isn’t it? How the heck are you and your web site going to stand out from every other damn grain of sand?

Well the good news is that 90% of those sites will never be found or, if they are, it will be by somebody typing their exact business name into a Google search box. Why is this good news? Because it means that if you have even the most basic knowledge of on-site Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), and apply it, then you are automatically in the top 10% of web sites on the big WWW.

Lee_marvinLet me expand on this, pardner!

What you need to concentrate on is turning your little grain of sand into a nugget of gold, a big shiny rock that prospectors are going to spot from a distance, or trip over, as they are meandering through that desert of stale and badly optimised blogs and web sites.

We’re not talking at this stage of the quality of your site, just the fact that they can find you amongst all those other sites. In fact you could have the most beautiful site in the whole desert, an oasis of relevant information and more, but if no bugger can find you? So what!

So what to do?

Well it might be a good idea to subscribe to this site for free SEO and SEM ( Search Engine Marketing) advice, the basic info is all free – it’s not necessarily ground breakingly new but, if your site ain’t ranking, it’s what you need to know. Maybe pass it on to your web designer. Send him a free copy of our ‘Site Re-Animator’ e-book perhaps.

Or contact SEOptimum as to how we might help you out of the Sandbox and into the light of day!
