Ever feel like people just don’t want you around?

Maybe it’s the fact that your site only gets 20 visitors a day ( and the suspicion that half of them are search engine bots and not real people) is the reason you think that this web ‘lark‘ isn’t all it’s cracked up to be…

It’s extremely disheartening when you have launched your new site and nobody comes to visit. To use an over-used analogy the “Build it and they will come” premise was NEVER true, even in the days before Google got really smart. It’s not that people hate you or your site and its content they’ve just never had the chance to visit you and check you out ( THEN they might hate you but that’s OK as at least they have an opinion!)

In fact are you even sure that Google knows your site exists? If they haven’t indexed your sites pages then nobody is going to find you by searching in Google even if they type your company name into the Search box!

If you’re panicking about that right now just go to:  indexedbygoogle.com/ don’t worry about adding the http:// or www. bit as the site checks both versions. You can use it for a page by page check of your site if the site is a small one. Anything over 10 pages I’ll suggest a better method later.

SO! It’s not a question of people not liking you or ignoring you intentionally it’s simply the fact that they can’t FIND you!

Phew! Well that’s a relief right? It isn’t you they don’t want to visit. Maybe they’d love to visit and would love your site and it’s content but they don’t know you’re there! It’s as if you’ve opened a shop in a quiet backstreet of a ghost town AND not told anybody about it. Hmm, seems like we need to spread the word, inform the world about where you’ve set up shop!
